On May 31 st , 2026, Dr. Kanapathippillai Anandakumaran passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his beloved family: his wife of 44 years, Sitkala Yalini (née Vaithialingam), his children Abirami (Rohan), Priya Nivashini (JP), his cherished grandchildren Krishanth, Aarya and Neena, and his siblings Amirthanandan (Saratha), Sivakumaran (Vijayalakshmy), Kamalambikai (Dr. Thavaneswaran), and Arulambikai (Dr. Pathmasrirengan), and  along with countless extended family members and dear friends.

He is the son in law of the late Eswary and Vaithialingam. 

Anandakumaran was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka on February 25, 1951, to parents Kanapathippillai and Maheswary. He grew up in Jaffna, Sri Lanka alongside his four siblings and many cousins, forming lifelong bonds that he cherished deeply. 

Anandakumaran demonstrated a strong commitment to education from an early age and was a proud alumnus of Jaffna Hindu College. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Peradeniya, and his PhD at The City University of New York, before settling down in Toronto, Canada. Anandakumaran dedicated over 25 years of service to Ontario Hydro and Kinectrics, where he worked as a Nuclear Research Scientist. During this time, he presented his work on cable aging around the world and was widely respected for his expertise in the field.

Above all, Anandakumaran was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and grandfather who valued his family deeply. He found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, sharing laughter, stories, and simple moments together. He cherished time with friends and loved being surrounded by those closest to him. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, and the love he shared with everyone around him.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful healthcare workers, as well as family and friends, who provided unwavering support over the past year.
