Mr. Appiah Kanagalingam passed away peacefully on Sunday, 7 February 2021 at the age of 90. He was born in Urumpirai and grew up in Suthumalai, studying at Manipay Hindu College.
Having married in Urumpirai, his career as a Postmaster took him and his family to many towns in Sri Lanka, including Jaffna, Udapussellawa, Kandy, Mannar, Puttalam, Mawathagama, Colombo, Weligama and Alaveddy. Following retirement, he lived the final decades of his life in London, UK.
Mr. Kanagalingam was the beloved eldest son of the late Appiah and late Ponnamma (Suthumalai / Malaysia). During his childhood, he was brought up lovingly by the late Rasaiah and Nallamma (Suthumalai),
and he was the beloved stepson of the late Thaiyalmuthu (Malaysia),
Mr. Kanagalingam was the dear son-in-law of the late Marimuthu and late Rasammah (Urumpirai),
and the beloved husband of Sathiadevi,
He was the much-loved father of Dr. Sugumar, Dr. Sasikala, Mohanakumar, Sundarakumar, Susikala, Sumathy and Easwarakumar,
as well as the cherished father-in-law of Sathiya, Rajamanoharan, Premaranjini, Subojana, Muraleedharan, Gnanasoruban (Rajah) and Selvavathany -all from London.
Mr. Kanagalingam was loved as a brother by Shanmuganathan-Shan (London),
He was also a beloved brother of the late Mahalingam, Leelavathy (Malaysia), Kamalavathy (Malaysia), Patmavathy (Malaysia), the late Suntharalingam (Thangarajah, of Malaysia), Sivalingam (UK), Sathiyavathy (Malaysia), Satgunavathy (Malaysia),
As well as a dear brother-in-law of the late Sathiyanathan, Maheswari (Canada), the late Sothimalar, Yogarajah (UK), the late Satkunam, Natkunam (UK), Sivanantham (Canada) and Nithiyanantham (Urumpirai).
Mr. Kanagalingam was the beloved and affectionate grandfather of Bhairavi, Pranavan, Dr. Senthooran, Dr. Sivakami, Dr. Abirami, Maran, Tarani, Seyon, Jegan, Lavan, Charan, Senthan and Rohan,
As well as a dear grandfather-in-law to Dr. Georgia Laavanya, Tharanipan and Dr. Magnus.
He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Kalyani, Nalan and Velan.
