Ariamalar Rajasingam (nee Durayappah) age 92, entered eternal glory peacefully surrounded by family in her home on August 17, 2022. Ariamalar was born on September 9, 1929 in Jaffna, Sri Lanka to loving parents. She grew up in Jaffna and became a Certified English teacher from 1949 to 1983. She was an inspiring and dedicated teacher to all who met her which continued until the end.


At the age of 22, she met a handsome man on a motorbike who became the love of her life. They married on June 5th, 1952. They shared 25 years of blissful marriage starting and raising a family of 5 together before Rajah died due to a sudden illness on Oct 14, 1977. Ariamalar raised her family with strong Christian values and taught them to share the joy of Christ with their own families. She embraced everyone who came into her life and made them feel loved and accepted like one of her own children. Following the July 1983 pogrom in Colombo, she courageously made the decision to start a new life in Canada at age 57. Ariamalar continued to build strong connections and played an active role in welcoming other newcomers from Sri Lanka to her new home in Canada. Her classmates had also made their way to Canada and so she was able to sustain those life-long friendships and has been a sincere friend. She continued to participate in community events until her illness made that difficult to continue.

Ariamalar was an amazing role model and loving mother to the late Manoranjan, Rajie, Sudha, Yogi and Priya.
 
Beloved mother-in-law to the late Shanthi, Kumar, George, Sudharshi, and Selva;
 
Awesome grandmother to Vandhana (Cliff) and the late Paarthi, Kanna (Hayley), Akshayan, Praveena (Arthavan), Maithi (Pranavan) and Aarani (Cyrus), Janahan (Emma), Jonathan (Thaksena), Anjana (Jack), Adrian and Cayden.
 
Affectionate great-grandmother to Oliver, Nirbhayan, Maya, Aaraadhyan, Sahaana, Philip and Freddie.
 
Survived by her sisters Eileen, Lydia and Jothy; pre-deceased by Samuel-Thambiah, Selvamalar, Thangamalar, Selvarajah, Alfred, Rathy, Stella, Yogarajah and William.

She went by many names Mahal, Ari, Acca, Teacher, Amma, Anni, Mamie, Aunty, Ari Anta, Ammamah, Appamah, Paati and Pooty; she will remain in our hearts and guide our paths forever.

The Funeral Service was held On monday 22nd August 2022 , at 10:00 am Canada.
