GunavathyAmmal Ranganathan, who was born in Urumpirai. Jaffna and lived in London, Perivale Ealing sadly passed away on Wednesday, 14-07-2021 in London.
She came to the United Kingdom in 1962 to join her beloved husband, the late Mr. Kanthiah Ranganathan and both established themselves in London. She was well known to the entire Tamil community throughout the UK and was fondly referred to as ‘Kunam Acca’. As part of the first generation of Tamils who arrived in London, she played an immense role in welcoming and settling family and fellow members of the community. She was part of the first generation, who had great courage, strength and tenacity, and paved the way for the rest of us. They faced enormous challenges and we owe them a lot. She made friends with people from all backgrounds and communities and would help and reach out to all. She was truly altruistic in all that she did. She was kind hearted, warm, compassionate, generous and humble, who welcomed everyone to her house and made sure they did not leave before she fed them. She was well respected by South Indian famous film artists, whom she welcomed to her home. She welcomed, MGR, Gemini Ganesan, Sri Priya, Pithukuli Murugadas, and Kirupanandha Variyar, who stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Ranganathan during each and every visit in the UK. Along with her late husband, she played an immense role in helping to establish Hindu Temples in London from the late 1970s. She was an active member and devotee at the Highgate Murugan Temple and took part in all of the major religious festivals.
She is the fourth daughter of the deceased couple Thambiayh and Chinnathangachchi of Urumpirai,
And the beloved daughter in law of the deceased couple of Kanthiah and Saraswathy Ammah,
She is the beloved wife of late Kanthiah Ranganathan,
Ever loving mother of Suganya,
Loving mother in law of Dr. Naveenan,
and affectionate grandmother of Dr. Thulasi Naveenan,
She is the kind and loving sister of late Dr. Selvaratnam, Mangaiyakarasi, late Thavamaniammal, late Nagaratnam (Indira), late Navaratnam (Thurai), Kanagaratnam, late ThanalakshmiAmmal, Jeevaratnam, and Jeyaratnam,
She is the loving sister in law of late Leelavathy, late Sellakandu, Rathinapoopathy, Pushpavathy, Lingeswary and Kirija, Paramanathan, late Padmavathy, Pathmanathan, and the late Shanmuganathan.
We are informing all our relatives and friends with great sadness of our immense loss.
We love and miss her immensely. She was an enormous presence in our lives and the lives of many.
