With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mr. Pakiasothy “Sothy” Joseph. Born in Sillalai, Sri Lanka, he later made his home in Montreal, Canada.
He was the son of the late Santhiapillai Francis Joseph of Naranthanai and the late Jeanne d’Arc Athanasiyar Joseph of Sillalai. He was also the son-in-law of the late S.A. Constantine of Sillalai and the late Leela Constantine (née Manuelpillai) of Karampon.
For over three decades, Sothy served as a translator for the Tamil community in Montreal, working across healthcare, social services, and the immigration system, giving a voice to the vulnerable. His life was a testament to faith, service, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He was the loving husband of Yvonne.
He will be forever cherished as the father of Jeyan (Kenza), Rajinth, and Tharmini (Alexandre), and the grandfather of Ryan, Mia, Ella, and Liya. He was the dear brother of Rani (late Tarcisius) and Ratna (late Sothy), and was predeceased by his beloved daughter Gayathri and his dear sister Mali (late Emil).
He will also be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law: Colin (Maura), Mervin (Shirley), Tarrin (Tanuja), and Godwin (Roshana).
