Mr. Sanmugam Ponniah Balasingham
Date of Birth: 24 November 1930 - Deceased: 21 February 2024
Mr. Sanmugam Ponniah Balasingham, 93 years, who retired from Sri Lanka Administrative Services (S.L.A.S) as a former Assistant Government Agent of Jaffna District, entered into eternal rest peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 21st, 2024, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Balasingham was born on November 24th, 1930 in Nayanmarkaddu, Jaffna, married in Kondavil East and spent the rest of his life in Toronto Canada.
He was the former Assistant Government Agent of Jaffna and has served as a Management Service Officer in the Minstry of Administration and Home Affairs, Coordinating Secretary to the Jaffna District Minister, Assistant Commisssioner of Marketing Department of Jaffna, Special Commissioner of Nallur and Atchuveli Grama Servakas, Chairman of Nayanmarkaddu Rajarajeswari Peichiamman Devastanam and volunteered in many other services. After moving to Canada, he continued his service at War Amps,Toronto for many years. After retirement, he became a dedicated long-term volunteer and served as a Tenant Representative for several years at 50 Tuxedo Court,Toronto Community Housing.
Mr. Balasinham is the grandson of late Sinnathambi Shanmugam of Nayanmarkaddu (so called "Pothiya Panakaran"), the only son of late Ponniah-Sivakolunthu and Son-in-law of late Chellappa Somasundaram-Pavalammah of Kondavil East.
He is survived by his loving wife Sarojinidevi,

There will be a ceremony to commemorate the legendary life of our dear Shanmugam Ponniah Balasingham at
Ajax Crematorium and Visitation Centre at 384 Finley Avenue, Ajax, Ontario.
We humbly welcome all families, relatives & friends to join us in the celebration of his life.
Visitation:
Sunday February 25th, 2024, from 5 PM - 9 PM
Funeral Services:
Monday February 26th, 2024 at 8 AM, followed by cremation at 11 AM
