Mr. Veluppillai Sahathevan
Date of Birth: 02 June 1943 - Deceased: 15 February 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Veluppillai Sahathevan, affectionately known as "Saha," on 15 February 2025.
Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Saha was the youngest child of the late Veluppillai and Sinnacchippillai, affectionately known as “Thamby.” He grew up in Sri Lanka, where he was a star student at Union College in Tellipallai, later pursuing an engineering degree at the University of Peradeniya. He began his professional career as an engineer at Radio Ceylon.
Saha moved to London in 1972, where he married his beloved wife, Malathi (Mala), in 1976. Together, they built a life in London, raising two children: Priyadharshini (Dharshi) and Hariharan (Hari), of whom they were immensely proud. Later, Saha was overjoyed to become a grandfather to three grand-daughters: Anoushka, Reya, and Laila.
He was a doting uncle to many, including Union College alumni and former cricketers Kamalan (USA) and Senthil (Canada), and an adopted uncle to many who spent time in London. His quiet wisdom, gentle nature, and sincere spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Although his family was spread across the globe, Saha cherished the time spent with his loved ones. He was a beloved figure in the extended family, and "London Thatha" will be deeply missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Kidney Patients Association, which supported Saha in the final years of his life with outstanding care.
Our deepest condolences to his wife, Mala, children, Priyadharshini and Hariharan, grandchildren, and the entire family during this difficult time.
On behalf of the Union College community and our family, we extend our heartfelt sympathy to Saha’s family.
Funeral arrangements will be shared shortly.
