"Viji was known to me during Jaffna Hindu College days from 1983 and we became closer after the A/L examinations. With the guidance from our Senior Chinniah Annai, went for English and Mechanical Drawing classes together with Sanka, Ambi and Rishi. 1986 we have arranged for my sister's wedding in Chulipuram and Viji has lead us to do most of the preparations. After the wedding celebrations, we went to University of Peradeniya for the first time by bus. We met many new friends in the bus and all were impressed by Viji’s songs. Viji had his early education in Kandy and was able to communicate fluently with all other Sinhala badge mates and became the leader of the badge soon. Unfortunately during 1987/88/89 our University was keep on closed and re-opened very frequently due to students strike and we were asked to vacate the halls of residence, some students who had relatives in Kandy and Colombo were fortunate but those from Jaffna had a tough time to get back to their home towns. Viji played major role in making economic travel arrangements for us. In later part of 1989 he left to UK and we were briefly connected. We were fortunate to catch up with Viji through Zoom on 5th and 12th of April 2020. The poem below is written by Professor A.
